Koreans have a habit of saying, “Did you have a meal?” Perhaps Korean couldn’t eat properly during the war, so asking if you were able to eat became a greeting to ask how you are doing. One day, one Chinese sister visited to my house to meet my roommate. But my roommate made a double promise and wasn’t at home. We didn’t know each other but we could guess who each other was. She was very embarrassed to know that she wasn’t at home. She didn’t come in and kept standing at the front door.
