A large outbreak of MERS-CoV infection occurred following a single patient exposure in South Korea.
Rapid and reliable laboratory diagnosis of persons suspected of MERS-CoV infection is important of timely implementation of infection control and disease management.
Recently Commercialized RT-PCR kit for diagnosis MERS-CoV uses various fluorescence dyes to detect specific amplification products.
When using this kit to prepare a reaction solution, the result may take 2 hours or more, and it is not suitable for rapid diagnosis.
An alternative optical technique, i.e., SERS is an promising method in terms of sensitivity and detection capability of multiple fluorescence dyes.
SERS enables sensitive detection of fluorescence dyes during the RT-PCR process that is combined with chromatography method for multiple fluorescence dyes separation.
We report the proof-of-concept plasmonic DNA chromatography strip for separation and sensitive detection of multiple fluorescence dyes using SERS.
We will overcome to use SERS and chromatography in order that reduce analysis time almost 3 hours and PCR cycles.
This analysis will be a new platform for use in miniaturized Point-of-Care Diagnostics (POCD) that can diagnose infections quickly and reliably.
