animals which live in a zoo.

I went to the zoo a couple of weeks ago.
On the way to the zoo I was arguing wheher it's ok for animals to live in a zoo with my mom. In my opinion We should let animals not be imprisoned but be free. Whenever I see animals live in a small cage, I get mad at the selfish of mankind.
Man don't have any right to store them. But accroding to my mom, zoo also is needed to exsist for our education. Kids can see them with their own eyes. Is it really reasonable that animal is sacrified for man?
